The Tetris effect has to be the clearest possible indication that computer games are naturally optimal Flow-inducing activities. As to why, well it has a lot to do with cognitive information processing. For more, look to the last link here.
Surely the Tetris Effect and earworms just speak to the power of expansive neural networks to retain patterns after repeat exposure, something we would both predict and expect?
We hold patterns in our "soft" memory while we wait for the "hard" memory to encode it, possibly while we dream. (Although the assertion that echidnas do not dream gives me pause, for surely they learn!)
